Using Foreign Credit Cards in Korea

Where visitor guidance says foreign cards work, and where a transport card or cash remains necessary.

Transport ticket purchases

The KTO’s 2026 guide marks foreign cards as accepted at relevant AREX, KTX and SRT ticket machines or counters and for several online or app booking flows. That does not mean you can tap the same foreign card at an ordinary subway or bus gate.

Ordinary public transport

The official guide tells subway and bus users to use a regular transportation card such as T-money. It also labels ordinary T-money purchase/top-up cash only for foreign-card users, creating a small but important cash requirement.

Prepare for issuer-side failures

Acceptance logos do not guarantee that a specific overseas issuer approves every transaction. Carry a second card and a measured cash fallback. Avoid storing exact card details or travel dates in an online planner.
