Search the same route more intelligently
Check earlier and later departures, the reverse direction separately, and any relevant nearby station option that the itinerary can genuinely use. Confirm the final local transfer before choosing an alternate station. Inventory is live, so an article cannot promise that a particular fallback remains available.
Understand what the pass changes
The official pass guide says seat reservations open one month before departure and allows up to two tickets per person per day. It also says a pass holder may board with a standing seat when reserved seats are sold out, subject to the current rules. That is not the same experience as holding a confirmed seat, especially with luggage or limited mobility.
Protect the trip rather than chasing one train
If no acceptable service exists, move the transfer day, reduce a rushed stop or use a different transport mode only after comparing the complete door-to-door journey. Keep cancellation terms and duplicate bookings visible. Do not buy both a pass and separate tickets until you understand which purchase remains refundable.
